This is in response to Arun's sighting of a purple finch in Charles
City on Sunday. Sunday afternoon I had both male and female purple
finches at the feeder in our wooded backyard in Eastern Hanover County.
(Oddly, we rarely have house finches show up there.) This couple were
in a feeding flock with goldfinches, titmice, chickadees, Carolina
wrens and one northern junco who obviously did not get the memo about
moving on.
