[va-richmond-general] Purple Martins

Sunday, June 14, 2009, high dark cloud cover: At 17th and Grace Streets, there were approximately 60 to 75 Purple Martins sighted in one flock. Ten birds were seen to go into the Bradford Pear trees. The remaining birds flew in a southeast direction behind a building. If they entered the trees, they entered from the southwest side of the trees. Time: 8:31 to 8:54 pm.
 
Monday, June 15, 2009, clear sky: At 17th and Grace Streets, three Audubon members tracked two flocks, one with 20 birds and the other with 80 Purple Martins into the trees on 17th Street. Activity really did not begin until 8:45 pm and ended at 8:55 pm.
