[va-richmond-general] Purple Martin Festival - July 26

To: Members of PMCA, RAS, and VSO

We are requesting 20-30 volunteers to assist the public in observing the Purple Martins at the Purple Martin Festival on Saturday, July 26th from 6 pm to 9 pm. at the Farmers Market in Richmond, Virginia. Steve Osberger obtained permission from the City to have this festival.

Dress rehearsal” for volunteers will be on Tuesday, July 22nd from 7:30-9 pm on 17th Street one block north of the corner of Main and 17th streets.  Look for the line of trees and the “TecHead” sign in the middle of the second block and that is where you will find us. We will hand out a sheet with the most “frequently asked questions” to assist you. Since parking is limited in the area, we will also tell you where you will park on Saturday evening.

If you represent the PMCA, please wear a dark blue/purple baseball cap. If you represent RAS or VSO please where a green/tan cap or hat so that you may be easily recognized in the crowd during the Purple Martin Festival. It is our hope that one PMCA member and a birding member (RAS/VSO) will pair together during the festival so that each can answer different questions from the public.

If you like to eat, you might want to come early on Saturday since the “Shockhoe Chefs Showdown” will be happening during the day. This event ends at 4 pm. There will also be free raspberry sherbet for you.

There should be an article in the Tuesday edition of the Ricmond Times-Dispatch. If you need more information, please contact Sue Ridd by email at s.ridd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or call (804) 270-5365. If it rains, we will meet under the Farmer's Market outdoor roof at the north end.
