[va-richmond-general] Powhatan Wildlife Management Area MAPS station opened today

It was an excellent day for the opening of Richmond Audubon's Monitoring Avian
Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) station at the Powhanat Wildlife
Management Area. The session was well-attended by RAS volunteers and other
interested visitors.

The morning opened with great excitement at the capture and banding of two
pileated woodpeckers, a first for the station. In all we processed 31 birds:
24 newly banded and 7 returns from previous years. A returned male Kentucky
Warbler in breeding condition was among the last birds captured in the day.

List for today:

white-eyed vireo (WEVI) 4 : includes one return from 2003 (an adult then,
making it 5+ years old)
red-eyed vireo (REVI) 4
pine warbler (PIWA) 1
black and white warbler (BAWW) 1
prairie warbler (PRAW) 1
