Young pine warblers of both sexes, as is the case with the wood
warblers generally and most passerines, are capable of breeding in the
first breeding season after their natal season. I encounter many
successful breeding female and male prothonotary warblers of that age,
for example. Neverhteless, breeders of that age commonly have a
somewhat greater liklihood of an unsuccessful nest attempt, or of being
unable to find a mate, or, in the case of young males, of being unable
to successfully defend a territory.
