Does anybody know anything about the sudden appearance of "mudflats" in the Beaver Lake at Pocahontas State Park? Is this the result of siltation or has there been some habitat manipulation? The water level is high due to last year's rain so it seems surprising that it would just be the result of siltation. Some of the mudflats are vegetated, some are not. Regardless, they look like good potential places to look for migrant shorebirds. My neighbor reported a dozen Killdeer a few days ago, and we saw at least 6 today.
