Some how the most impromptu adventures pan out the best-so was the case last evening when I paddled at Pocahantos SP with another birding buddy. We put in at 530 and paddled till dark. The bird song was continuous with Red Headed-Woodpeckers calling in large numbers. Fish were jumping, beavers were tail-slapping and star shot right across the evening sky in front of us. As we started to lose sunlight a Mature Bald Eagle took his last flight of the evening in search of a roost. As the birds went in the bats came out as did the stars and a lot of beaver activity. A very relaxing paddle. Here are the highlight birds:
Osprey
Bald Eagle
Red-tailed Hawk
Green Heron
Great blue Heron
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (male)
Common Nighthawk (2)
Wood duck
Phoebe
Downy
Pileated Woodpecker
Red-headed Woodpecker and the usual expected species
