9 "Extreme" birders rolled out much before sunrise to spend a great morning
at The Nature Conservancy's Piney Grove Preserve. All our target birds were
seen-most notably Red-cockaded Woodpeckers as they left their cavities right
on cue at sunrise. 50 species were tallied and a late morning "brunch" at 9
am at the VA Diner refueled the group for some late morning birds and
butterflies. Many thanks go out to Clark White from the Cape Henry Audubon
Society for obtaining permission and leading us on a very successful trip.
Highlights:
Green Heron
Northern Bobwhite
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Red-headed Woodpecker
Red-cockaded Woodpecker
Yellow-throated Vireo

Cedar Waxwing
Yellow-throated warbler
Pine

...and the other expected species.
Great to see so many new field trip participants.
