I'm going thru old e-mail. Saw your comment on Bobwhite Quail.
When the James river Park was first being set up in the early/mid 1970's
the meadow area opposite the Reedy Creek entrance was (regretibly) seeded
with Lespodesia and stocked with quail (and, I believe some ring-necked
pheasants). Reproduction was poor --- presumably due to predation from ferrel
and
neighborhood cats --- but there were still a few quail when I arrived in 1980.
there may indeed still be a few birds and you may have heard one.
