[va-richmond-general] New yard birds, misc. N. Va. birds

I went outside with hummer feeders and realized there were warblers and a
pair of scarlet tanagers mixed in with the usual suspects. Two new warblers
for the yard were orange crowned (life bird!) and n. parula, plus a few
yellow rumps. There are fledgling bluebirds out and about, and lots of
birds with food and nesting material. The towhees are drinking their tea as
early as 4am some days and they sing up on the telephone and power lines
sometimes. I don't get out there much right now and probably have missed
quite a few migrants for the yard list.
Regarding NoVa birds, I did not see much that wasn't already reported at
Huntley Meadows, Julie Metz, Jackson Abbott, Possum Point/Cockpit Rds. or
OBNWR in brief visits around my continuing ed class this past weekend, but
it is probably worth noting that Jackson Abbott had lots of exposed mud in
the marsh behind the pond and was loaded with solitary sandpipers late
Sunday afternoon (could not tease a single spotted or snipe out the lot for
my year list). There was a pair of yellow billed cuckoos mating where the
path comes out of the woods from the parking area. I hope to get back and
look for fledglings later. Green herons were pretty much every place I
went-kept missing them elsewhere. Marsh wrens heard at Julie Metz and seen
at OBNWR. Orchard oriole singing in a small tree at Julie Metz (very muddy
there). The common nighthawk at Huntley and the harrier at OBNWR I already
tagged onto someone else's report. Sorry for the late post-I am still on
the mend. Have a great day!

P.S. If someone wants to carpool to the cerulean survey training session in
Charlottesville I want to be there this evening. Please contact me off the
list. I am in Bon Air.
