In our Bluebird box we had a pair of Carolina Wrens have 5 young that hatched
earlier this year. After they were gone ,I cleaned the box out and the same
pair came back and the box has 3 young in it. Another pair of Carolina Wrens
,the pair that stays on our property year round, nested in a hanging basket
plant on the deck. 3 of 4 eggs hatched and all 3 young fledged in late May and
survived to this day . Two of the young ( probably females ) feed on their
own but still accompany the parent birds to our pecan and mealworm feeders. The
backyard bird box hanging in a tree had a pair of Carolina Chickadees build a
nest in early March. After they left the nest ,I cleaned the box out and it is
now occupied by a pair of House Wrens with 3 young birds. In a neighbor's yard
somewhere there was a successfull Feb. or March hatching of Bluebirds as there
is often a group of 3 young Bluebirds that hatched this year traveling as a
loose group in the area.

Subject: [va-richmond-general] Nesting Eastern Bluebirds
Was totally blown away yesteday to find a clutch of 5 eggs in my most
productive bluebird box. The bluebirds laid 5 eggs in March but
unfortunately they never hatched. In April they tried again and successfully
hatched 5 of 6 eggs. I am in my garden which backs up to the bluebird box
almost daily and have not noticed any nest box activity of late. Yesterday I
saw a bluebird fly out of the box. What a great surprise to find a beautiful
nest of 5 eggs!
