[va-richmond-general] Neighborhood birding in Powhatan 6/9/09 - nesting TREE SWALLOW, ? KILLDEER

I took my morning walk around our neighborhood in Powhatan County and turned up
41 species - not bad for a rural subdivision that includes wooded lots, large
expanses of birding desert aka lawns, and bordering on some farmland. Of note
was a TREE SWALLOW that repeatedly
dive bombed me for apparently walking too close to where it appears to be
nesting in a newspaper box. There was also a pair of KILLDEER that were
calling repeatedly overhead, then one landed in the overgrown gravel driveway
of one of the never-sold McMansions, which led me to speculate that
there might be a nest or young there. Never did find it, though.
