[va-richmond-general] Re: Misc. +ear birding

Given the description and the location, I wondered if the second bird was a
junco?

The first one sounds like a Black-capped Chickadee. The second I have
trouble from your description. Are the notes repeated fast or slow,
on the same pitch, same volume?

it has been so cool here that the trees are WAY behind . Some, at
ridge tops, are still budding, although the last two days have
improved things.

Redstart building a nest. Also enjoyed watching a Robin repeatedly
bombarding a squirrel who she though was invading her nesting tree.
She made at least four passes at him and then chased him briefly
across the forest floor (reall mocker behavior)!

But not being a very good ear-birder, I need some help. I have some
good bird call cds and two unknown birds and don't know how to begin
to see what they might be. One simply sings two notes in what I think
is a middle range. The notes are one note apart, the second lower
than the first. The second makes a single low and somewhat hollow
note repeated about 7 to 9 times. This is a ground bird or one low in
the bushes.
