John was concerned about a possible conflict of interest between the
catbird and thrashers. The catbirds have been visible and vocal for
quite some time. The thrashers arrived on the patio just this weekend -
with newly fledged young in tow. This morning provide an answer. The
thrasher and catbird were feeding on the patio together - each busily
pursuing its task independently, with no apparent notice of the other.
The thrasher was feeding 2 youngsters and made no "thrasher" sounds -
just the parent/child contact sounds. The catbird did catbird
vocalizations and flew off with his catch.
The backyard is a great study, and so far the mosquitoes aren't too bad.
