[va-richmond-general] MAPS banding in Powhatan 29 June 2008

7 MAPS' banders beat the heat (almost) and had an awesome morning in Powhatan. Nets were open at 530 am and closed at 1130 am. Wild-flowers, Blackberries and Butterflies were all about as were the birds. We tallied about 28 with a mix of new birds and recaptures as well as a couple new for the season. A nice surprise to hear a Screech Owl this morning as well as a few "bob-whyyytes" calling in the distance. A few folks heard a Whip-poor-will driving in to the site. Many Prairie warblers calling as well as Blue-grey Gnatcatchers and Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

Here's what we got in the Alpha codes....figure you can do some research during the heat and learn a little banding shorthand until this weather passes in October.....

Attaching a few images so you can see why we would want to get up at 3:45 and stay out in the 90 degree temps.

Enjoy the summer.
