[va-richmond-general] MAPS banding 25 July 2009 Dutch Gap (or why we get up at 3:30 am)

Hard to believe the MAPS season is almost over. We had a very steady day with a bit of diversity at Dutch Gap in Chester yesterday. Total number of birds netted was 32 with 21 being recaps.  Nets were open at 540 and closed by noon.  Many Prothonotary warblers still hitting our nets-mostly recaptures; however we did band 3 hatch year birds (HY) and 1 Adult who have somehow escaped the banding canoeists. We started and ended the day with woodpeckers in the nets-a Hairy and a Downy. One other HUGE surprise and perhaps a new species for Dutch Gap was the banding of a female Worm-eating warbler sporting a nice brood patch. Here's the run down of the day. Thanks to a great team that have cetainly "unlocked the secret" to  successful banding...... :-)
