[va-richmond-general] MAPS' Opening Powhatan WMA May 24, 2009 Powhatan, VA


Great weekend for opening our MAPS' stations. Today was the season opener for Powhatan WMA. A welcome relief to have the cooler temps and overcast skies. We were greeted with a Barred Owl calling and the slap of a beaver tail as we started around the pond to open the 17 nets. Many frogs were calling throughout the day including Cricket, Carpenter, Bullfrog and Grey Tree Frog. We netted 29 birds with 10 being recaptures (previously banded). I think one of our most exciting part of the day was the netting of 2 recaptured male Northern Parula's , a Black & White warbler, Indigo Bunting and Pine warbler on one net run.
