Double-header this weekend as we opened the 2008 MAPS banding season at Dutch Gap this morning. The same hardy crew turned out for another beautiful morning-opening up just about sunrise and closing down around noon. 39 birds netted today. True to form for Dutch Gap-our most common birds were Prothonotary Warbler, Northern Cardinal and Carolina Wren. Lots of bird song in the canopy. A Yellow-throated Warbler did come down to the net as well as Blue-grey Gnatcatchers. We had 16 recaptured birds-will have to check to see if we had them all last year.
Here is today's list and a little photo footage.
Common Yellowthroat
Red-eyed Vireo
Indigo Bunting
Yellow-throated Warbler
Blue-grey Gnatcatcher (male and female)
Carolina Wren
Grey-Cheeked Thrush (2)
Tufted Titmouse
Blue Jay
Brown Thrasher
Prothonotary Warbler (8-all recaps)
Acadian Flycatcher
Northern Cardinal (13-4 of them recapture)
Enjoy the birds.
