[va-richmond-general] Re: Least Bittern-May 27-Henricus

I saw one of the birds when I stopped by on the way home from work. It was
about 5:20 in the afternoon. waited 5 to 10 minutes to see one thank you for
the alert. Have not seen a kingbird on the fence by the road this year at
Henricus.
There is a regular Kestrel pair in the area of River Road in Prince George
County off temple Avenue and another pair in Varina area of Henrico on Turkey
Island Road.

Sincerely,

Tyler Turpin

Ran threw Henricus this morning about 9 am for a few minutes and had great
looks at 2 Least Bitterns with little effort. The birds were seen about 50
yards straight off the first platform as you drive in. They made frquent short
flights back and forth to the same area in the marsh (? nest). The vegetation
is quite dense but the Bitterns occasionally perched on snags for long looks.
Other birds seen/heard:

Yellow Warbler
Yellow-throated warbler
Blackpoll
Prothonotary
Common Yellow throat
Indigo Bunting
Blue-grey gnatcatcher
Orchard Oriole
Eastern Bluebird
Canada Geese with goslings
...and the other usual residents.

A huge snapping turtle was in the road as I pullled inand made a safe
crossing.
