[va-richmond-general] July 3rd MAPS' banding Dutch Gap-Chester, VA

An unusual respite from the heat and humidity of a Virginia summer at Dutch Gap this morning as 7 eager volunteers took to the field for a very enjoyable morning of banding.  Nets opened at 5:30 am and closed by noon. 24 birds were banded-13 were recaptured from a previous time. An unexpected Yellow-throated warbler came down from the canopy to start our day and a Female Summer Tanager and Downy Woodpecker wrapped things up. Lots of bird song in the woods. Yellow-billed Cuckoos sounded off most of the day. Osprey were calling and fishing Here's the tally:

Carolina Wren-8 (5 recaps)

Northern Cardinal-6 (3 recaps)

Prothonotary Warbler-6 (5 recaps)

Carolina Chickadee-dee-dee-1

Yellow-throated Warbler-1 (Female with full brood patch)

Summer Tanager -1 (Female with full brood patch)

Downy Woodpecker -1

Enjoy the weekend,
