Sunday morning a dozen RAS birders explored the far reaches of James River
State Park and found 56 species, including abundant Baltimore and orchard
orioles defending territory. There were also plentiful yellow-breasted chats
displaying, as well as scarlet tanagers, blue grosbeaks, indigo buntings, and
several warbling vireos. A number of green herons flew around the boardwalk
and over the marsh. Heard birds included bobwhite quails and black-billed
cuckoos. It was RAS' first trip to JRSP and a very productive one.
