Spent a couple of hours on Sunday morning (2/13/05) birding the James River
Park System, in the City of Richmond. Split my time between the Floodwall
area and the Main area (42 St./Reedy Creek).
Of note at the Floodwall area were 2 PEREGRINE perched on the downtown Bank
of America signage. 1 of the birds appeared to be eating a prey item. Could
not tell what it was. Also saw a female AMERICAN KESTREL in the railway yard
area. In the vegetation below the overlook was a HOUSE WREN and a WINTER
WREN.
A single COMMON MERGANSER was in the water below the Manchester Bridge.
Scoped up the gulls at both sites but nothing unusual.
