[va-richmond-general] James River Park - Main Section , Richmond, VA , 5/2/09

In spite of a slow start due to overcast conditions, we had a great day in James River Park today. Though we did not match Arun Bose's 17 warbler day yesterday, we tallied a respectable 15 species seen or heard, including Worm Eating Warbler just below the 42nd Street parking lot, Louisiana Waterthrush singing loud and long just upstream from the stairs, Chestnut-sided and Magnolia Warblers squabbling near the meadow, Palm Warbler (Western) in the Reedy Creek area, brief looks at an Ovenbird, and an early Blackpoll Warbler (heard but never seen).
Other species of interest included Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, Scarlet and Summer Tanager, Swainson's and Wood Thrushes, and a pair of Yellow-billed Cuckoos (observed mating).
