[va-richmond-general] Henricus Park/Dutch Gap Trail

Beautiful weather for bird watching today, and here's a listing of who was out
and about:
American Crow
American Goldfinch (f, m)
American Robin
Bald Eagle (pair trying to spar with an Osprey and outmaneuvered by said
Osprey, with ease, too)
Belted Kingfisher (m)
Black Vulture
Canada Goose (numerous)
Carolina Chickadee
Carolina Wren
Cooper's Hawk
Downy Woodpecker (f)
Eastern Phoebe
Eastern Towhee (m)
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Green Heron
Least Flycatcher
Mallard Duck (f, m)
Mourning Dove
Northern Cardinal
Northern Flicker (alarmed female in a tree, squeaking)
Osprey
Pileated Woodpecker (f, m)
Redbellied Woodpecker (m)
Redheaded Woodpecker
Redwinged Blackbird (f, m)
Tufted Titmouse
Turkey Vulture
White-throated Sparrow
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Yellow-rumped Warbler

Key: f = female, m = male, j = juvenile, * = auditory ID only

Also seen were several species of marine birds, most flying too high or too far
away to ID correctly; toward late evening a large raptor (hawk) seen flying
along the trail, but the lighting was poor and my best guess might be
Red-shouldered, but I do not know for sure. Lovely to watch in flight, however.

Cheers,

Irene in Southside
