Katie, But of course sparrows are confusing - and there are lots of other groups of birds that will drive you to distraction, too! The thing is that once you've seen the Fox Sparrow a couple of times you'll find it quite distinct. By default you'll see many Song Sparrows - they're a year round sparrow in these parts. But when you see the Fox Sparrow it'll stand out as "different" - its whole "giz" is larger and grayer and redder than a Song Sparrow - just different. I often think I'll forget what Fox Sparrows look like and then when I see one I smile and know what it is. So, just keep looking- the more you see - the more you'll see!!!
