      Amanda:

      I concur with the other gentlemen that your bird is a juvenile 
Red-shouldered Hawk. A couple of years ago, a similar hawk came to my backyard 
and I was able to take photos from several angles (see attached). The experts 
at RAS identified this bird for me.

      The Cooper's Hawk has a proportionately longer tail.
