[va-richmond-general] Green-winged Teal at Dutch Gap

Friday afternoon (12/27/02) at Dutch Gap we saw a pair of Green-winged Teal.
The male wore the adult breeding plumage. They were observed in front of the
blind overlooking the marsh. There was just one pair, and they stayed to
themselves. There were large numbers (30~40) of N. Shovelers nearby, ~6
Mallards, lots of C. Geese, ~12-14 Gadwalls, one pheobe, and ~12-14 Great Blue
Herons. We also got a good look at a Barred Owl near the same area. This was
between 2:30 and 4 PM.
At the marsh on the road leading to the parking lot there were 10~16 blue
herons on or near the nests at the rookery. Around 1:30 pm, we only saw 1 or 2
near the nests. The rest were out hunting.
