[va-richmond-general] Re: Fwd: IVORY BILLED WOODPECKER SIGHTING

I had someone insist that the GB Heron and Little Blue Heron which often
frequented the same pond at the same time were mother and offspring. I very
sweetly suggested they were different species and let them borrow a field
guide to read....

Wow.Without actually telling her she's nuts, maybe you could ask her if
she has photographs? Does she really know the difference between
species? When I worked for the DNR in Wisconsin we got a couple of these
calls per year - one well meaning person was quite postive he had an
adult Ivory bill and 2 little ones. It turned out to be a Pileated, and
  2 downy woodpeckers.
