[va-richmond-general] Fisherman's Island and points East

No tricks at all this weekend, just great treats with bootiful weather and
spooktacular birds as 11 of us hit the beach of Fisherman's Island under the
leadership of Denny Fiola of the ESWR. Morning haze gave way to afternoon
sunshine and warm breezes as we all enjoyed watching the dolphins play in
the surf and filling our Halloween bags with treasures from the surf. It was
hard to know where to look-shells and creatures covered the beach, birds
soared overhead and many a dorsal fin skimmed the surf. A few of us camped
at Kiptopeke SP and logged a few additional species.

Highlights of the weekend:

Common Loon
Northern Gannet
Brown Pelican
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Snowy Egret
Black-crowned Night Heron
American Black Duck
Surf Scoter
Osprey
Sharp-shinned Hawk
American Kestrel
Peregrine Falcon
Black-bellied Plover
Sanderling
Dunlin
Greater Yellowlegs
Caspian Tern
Royal Tern
Forster's Tern
Belted Kingfisher
Tree swallow
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Brown-headed Nuthatch
Rufous-sided Towhee
.......and an occasional yellow-rumped warbler.

Thanks to the group for a wonderful time and thanks to Denny and the ESWR
for the privilege to visit Fisherman's Island. Hope to schedule another trip
in the spring.
