[va-richmond-general] Re: FW: Tundra Swan in Chesterfield Co.

Rachel,

That's a beautiful picture. There is no glare or haze from the sun, except
maybe at the top, and the swan shows quite well. It's good enough for a
greeting card.

Hi Everyone,

I visited my neighborhood swamp this morning and was surprised to find a
lone tundra swan. In checking the Gold Book, there are only 3 summer
records for the bird in the piedmont. Here's a link to a picture (excuse
the quality, as I had no choice but to shoot into the sun):

Other birds were the expected. I was pleased to see at least two juvenile
red-headed woodpeckers. There were are least 6 adults in the area, and it's
been nice to see the young being brought to the feeders the past two days.
Also abundant were great crested flycatchers, some of them fighting with
each other and the red-headed woodpeckers. I'll try to post a picture of
the juvenile red-headed woodpeckers later. Another treat was a juvenile
male pileated woodpecker, peeking out of a nest hole, along with an adult
male.
