This morning, 7/31, while I was sitting on my back porch watching a
House Wren and my resident hummingbirds, I was surprised to see a large
bird fly into my backyard and perch in a large dead tree that I have.
The bird turned out to be an adult Mississippi Kite. It was soon joined
by two other kites, another adult and a first summer bird that still
showed some barring on the tail, and they sat perched in my tree from
9-9:30 AM after which they flew off. I last saw them circling above a
field across the street. I attached a photo of one of the birds to this
e-mail. I hope it comes out okay. It was a thrill for me to have such
awesome birds of prey in my yard. Good birding.
