At Dutch Gap today Linda & I saw 41 species. We started around 12:30 at the marsh, and then went as far as the bird-banding area on the main trail, but some of the best birds were on the side trails, out of the cold wind and in the brush & trees. Highlights were: a Pied-billed Grebe, Northern Pintail, lots of Wood Ducks in their own private hole near the back line of trees at the marsh you can see on the way to the parking lot. A single Osprey was calling from an overhanging limb near the road around the 2 mile mark of the main trail. There were Fox, White-crowned, and White-throated Sparrows near the banding area, as well as juncos and Ruby-crowned Kinglets. Linda saw one Rose-breasted Grosbeak in the brush in that area. It was very cold and windy - my camera batteries refused to deliver any significant power - but we needed some exercise, and we got that! And then some.
