[va-richmond-general] Curles Neck Trip

On Sunday, March 13, a group of 20 plus bundled up RAS members and friends
visited Curles Neck. Despite a cold, rainy start, the day got better as time
went by, and we ended up seeing 71 species at last count. So it was a good day
after all, thanks to our fearless leaders, John & Caroline Coe (the kind of day
is proportional to how long it takes to clean up the car). Highlights were as
follows: A HUGE flock of Snow Geese, mostly dark phase, it looked like around
1000, but probably more like 5-600; 11 species of ducks, including all three
mergansers; many Bald Eagles, including one arial courting display; 5 species
of hawks plus American Kestrel; Wilson's Snipe, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Least
Sandpiper; 5 species of gulls, including Great Black-backed, Laughing, and
Bonaparte's; Great Horned and Barred Owls; Horned Lark; American Pipit; Hermit
Thrush; and 7 species of sparrows/juncos, including Field, Fox, Savannah, and
White-crowned. If anyone has additions to the list below, please post it here
or email me and I'll add it to the list.
