Cooper's hawkGeorge,
Maybe you were thinking of red-tailed hawks. They like to do everything in open
areas. Cooper's, red-shouldered, and sharp-shinned hawks usually catch their
prey and eat them in wooded areas, including back yards with trees, etc.

I saw a Cooper's hawk enjoying a pigeon lunch while perched in a holy tree
behind First Baptist Church Sunday. She was only about 10 feet above the
sidewalk. I thought they ate in open areas?
