The other day when I drove up in front of our house in Northside, I saw a
juvenile Cooper's hawk on the trunk of a car two doors down from us! It
almost
acted like it had a meal in its talons, but I could see nothing. Maybe it was
pecking at its own reflection? Then it flew down the street a short
distance, landed in a tree. I ran for my binoculars, and headed down the
street.
It flew down beside a car, walked underneath it, and emerged on the other side.
I think a squirrel had been under there. The Cooper's flew back up near
its original position, then flew onto the hood of our car! I felt honored!
I walked slowly back to our house and in the front door. When I turned my
back to tell my husband to come look, it took off and I didn't see which
direction it headed. Although I enjoyed the prolonged, close-up looks, I
wondered
if this was abnormal behavior...
