[va-richmond-general] Common Moorhen- Henricus Park 5/4

The Common Moorhen was again seen at the first marsh observation deck at
Henricus Park on Sunday evening. It was feeding and preening just in the
vegetation but clearly visible. At the same spot, swimming in open water, we
saw a lone coot.

From the second observation deck we heard a strange "poopoopoo" call that
seemed to come from the first line of trees behind the marsh. It was low
pitched and had a strangely wooden sound and was repeated several times over
several minutes. We had no tapes but our field guides lead us to suspect it was
a Least Bittern. Anyone seen or heard the bittern this year at Henricus?

I got a call from Mike Iwanik and Vickie Gullet this afternoon saying
that they had a COMMON MOORHEN at the first marsh observation deck at
Henricus Park in Chesterfield County. Good birding.
