[va-richmond-general] Car break-in today at Pony Pastures

This afternoon my car was parked in the parking lot between the Huguenot Bridge 
and the "meadow" on Riverside Drive.  I returned to find the passenger side 
window smashed.  The same thing happened to a car parked next to mine.  The 
other driver was also a birder and had only left his car for 15 minutes before 
returning to find the damage.

I had mistakenly left an empty iPhone cover on the seat and it must have looked 
like an iPod to the thief.  He took nothing except the empty cover but left it 
on the ground near the vehicle. The thief took some personnel things from the 
other car, but left a spotting scope. I feel very lucky because the thief 
didn't take my carbon tripod and Wimberly head that were in the car at the time.

The broken window will be replaced tomorrow, but I'm not sure how this 
experience will affect my frequent visits to view birds along the James River.
