[va-richmond-general] Re: Canvasbacks

Hi Larry,

I do have records for Redheads, Canvasback, and even scoters from years
past. Always from Jan - Feb. Seems to be in conjunction with very cold
weather, and I suspect also sufficiently low water levels in the James R.
This winter is certainly very unusual in the numbers of birds and variety
of species. These are the most Canvasbacks I have seen here, e.g., I have
a record of six from 5 Feb. 2000, which is far short of the 70 or more
that can be seen now. My high for Redheads was 26 in 1999.

Checking my records, I have seen C. Goldeneye on the James before too, on
the James R. Park count off of Belle Isle in 1996.
