A friend and I visited Byrd Park in downtown Richmond today. We went to see
if we could spot a Great Horned Owl on the nest near the carillon.we were
pleasantly surprised to find one sitting on a limb directly under the nest,
in a very good spot for getting a great view. Here's the link to one
picture I took:

Does anyone know if this is the male or female? I sort of assumed the
female would be egg-sitting by now, but perhaps not. Or, maybe she is on
the nest, which is hard to see, and this is the male? I checked the ivy
covered trees nearby searching for the male, to no avail.
Other fun birds viewed in the park:
2 field sparrows
2 red-tailed hawks perched on very tip of the carillon
Flickers everywhere!
