[va-richmond-general] Blue-footed Boobies and the Military

When I read RAS President Margaret O'Bryan's "President's Message" this =
month (http://www.cvco.org/science/audubon/presmsg.htm), I spent some =
time thinking about my own "WOW" experiences. Strangely enough, one of =
them was seeing a PICTURE, in David Attenborough's The Life of Birds, of =
a Blue-footed Booby diving into the ocean. This book is worth buying =
just for that one picture on page 139. Tonight on NPR I heard that =
this week Congress is voting on whether to excuse the United States =
Military from environmental laws that "interfere" with their activities =
on certain islands in the South Pacific. Among the birds mentioned that =
are endangered there was the Blue-footed Booby. I have to tell you this =
just makes my heart stop. Does anyone have any thoughts on what one =
should "do" about this?
By the way, after seeing this incredible picture, I searched the web for =
information on Blue-footed Boobies and everything I found seemed to =
regard this bird as being nothing but some sort of joke.
