I was at the Hiwassee Refuge on January 2, 2004 (Friday). Hiwassee is at
the confluence of the Tennessee and Hiwassee rivers near Birchwood, TN.
IF your not from that part of the world, the closest town you may have
heard of is Chattanooga. Hiwassee is managed by the Tennessee Wildlife
Resource Agency. That day I say Blue Birds, Black Ducks, Ring Neck
Ducks, Herons, Mallards, immature Bald Eagles, an assortment of
Woodpeckers and approximately 3,000 Sandhilll Cranes. Approximately
50,000 Sandhill Cranes visit there as a migratory pit-stop annually.
There is an annual festival there on February 7 -8, 2004.
