Judith,
The Simmons are in a different category: Digital Binoculars. There are
several other brands as well. I don't have any experience with them, but
have the feeling they would be great if what you want to do is take =
pictures
of birds and just want snapshots, not high quality images. For general
birding I would think that feature might get in the way, plus add to the
weight and bulk of the optics. However, Simmons does make an 8x42 =
version
that may be OK. The 8x22 and 8x30 versions may have too narrow a field =
of
view for birding.
I found a good source of digital binoculars at this website. It may be a
good source of other birding optics as well:
