[va-richmond-general] BLACK VULTURES TO BE KILLED TOMORROW AT HENRICUS PARK

Back in April of 2003, someone posted this regarding Henricus Park:
"If you hear cannon blasts, be aware that there is a
program underway to "discourage" the Black Vultures from hanging around
the boat launch area. Various techniques are being tried to keep the
vultures away without extensive trapping & killing."

Visitors to the park still complained about the black vultures deficating on
their cars and picking at their windshield wipers. They kept on and the USDA
recently gave the go-ahead to kill the black vultures.

THIS IS AN URGENT SITUATION. IT WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY, 12/14)
ALL DAY.

The USDA (APHIS division) and USFWS plan to kill as many black vultures as
possible in Henricus Park (Henricus Historical Park and Dutch Gap Conservation
Area). About 400 black vultures are said to roost there. Since vultures eat
carion, they might try to lure birds in then kill them. It's in Chesterfield
county and the address is 251 Henricus Road.

I've contacted the media and one reporter wants to interview, on site, people
who will be protesting at the park.
  Anyone?
