[va-richmond-general] ASSISTANCE NEEDED, PLEASE RESPOND

Dear List Members,
Due to a recent unfortunate and regrettable incident, it has come to the
attention of a local cable company that their employees and contractors require
training regarding animals, especially birds, that might be living or nesting
in cable boxes serviced by their company.

They would like a knowledgable individual who could potentially give a
presentation on protection and humane laws pertaining to wildlife, humane and
careful removal of wildlife and nesting materials, and insight on how and when
to set up "rotation" schedules so that if a bird is nesting in a cable box,
maintenance and audits can be scheduled before/after nesting seasons so as to
cause the least amount of trauma or disruption to any live animals. They are
trying to institute more responsible standards and policies within their
company, and institute greater accountability in terms of employee contact with
wildlife.

I have already gathered up URLs for the Wildlife Center of Virginia, VA Society
of Ornithology, Audubon, Nature Conservancy, and the U.S. Humane Society. I
felt that all of these organizations have websites with useful information, but
in addition to what is available there, the company would also like literature
which can be incorporated into training sessions, and a presentation either by
a ornithologist and/or an official of a regulatory agency who would be able to
comment on laws protecting wildlife (for that so far I have DGIF and U.S. F&WS).

Can anyone make further recommendations, or furnish names of individuals I
might contact on the company's behalf? They have asked that I help them
coordinate their efforts to gather and organize information and possible
presentations, and I am happy to do this since it will ultimately help wildlife.

Please feel free to respond here or by private email.

Many thanks in advance!
