[va-bird] white-fronted goose, Fauquier County

All,

Todd Day, Bev Leeuwenburg, Mike Boatwright, Adam D'Onofrio, John Fox,
and myself had great scope views of a Greater White-fronted Goose at the
pond on Harrison road today around 11:00. Year bird #319 for Mike I
believe. There were also two kestrels in the field there stirring up
some pipits and a large flock of grackles, cowbirds, and red-winged
blackbirds. There were two adult bald eagles in the tree near the pond
when we first pulled up and they were later joined by a 3rd year bird.
Two snipe gave us fly by views as we looked at the goose. There was a
single ruddy duck and a flock of green-winged teal on the pond as well
as hundreds of canada geese making us work to find the white-fronted.

Prior to Harrison Road we checked a couple private ponds and found
everyone's first bufflehead of the fall (2 females and a male).

From Harrison Road we proceeded to the Remington area where we found
100's of pipits with a few horned larks enjoying the sods farm. A late
grasshopper sparrow perched obligingly on a fence wire along Grassdale
Road giving us all prolonged looks at this gorgeous little bird and an
osprey seemed really out of place perched on a telephone pole there.
