Hello, birders.
Sorry for the late post. On Saturday the 4th I hiked
the Bridle Trail and area at Sky Meadows SP, where I
saw 7 AM. TREE SPARROWS. 6 were in one flock on the
far part of the Bridle Trail, one was near the duck
ponds.
I then went to the Blandy Experimental Farm in Clarke
County, where I viewed the BT GRAY WARBLER around
1:30pm near the arch. Almost 10 other birders were
there, everyone got at least a glimpse. Someone said
that a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW had been seen there
recently, I have no idea when, but it was reported to
be in the field to the left of the Peetwood Pavilion,
as you're facing the pavilion. This would be a good
count week bird for the Calmes Neck CBC if someone
could confirm it.
On Sunday the 4th, I participated in the Calmes Neck
CBC. I covered all of section 12, which is in eastern
Clarke County. Highlights for me were a displaying
AM. WOODCOCK just before 7am on Rte. 601 near
someone's yard. I never actually saw the bird but I
definitely heard the display. I also saw over 20
PURPLE FINCHES in 3 separate areas. Inexplicable was
an apparent lack of SONG SPARROWS.
