Over the past weekend, Jennifer and I spent several hours birding in and
around Riverside Park. Warblers are still making a great showing. We
picked up black-and-white, blackpoll, cape may, bay-breasted,
black-throated green, yellow, and yellow-rumped warblers, northern
parulas and a louisiana waterthrush. From the Alpine Trail , we could
also hear a prothonotary warbler singing down along the river below us.
The best bird (and most unexpected), however, was a black-billed cuckoo
catching and feasting on a big green caterpillar seen by Jennifer one
street east of the park.
