CBBT: Most responders have covered the cogent points of this debate; however,
I have two additional comments/thoughts to offer: 1)If I am "Honest and
Upright" enough of an American citizen to obtain a DOD "Secret" security
clearance, why must I be accompanied by a security person to be able to go bird
watching?
And, 2) If we must live with the reality of the bureaucratic dog's tale wagging
the citizens' body, why can't a birder-law-engorcement person be certified as
an escort? Certainly among the many birders in Virginia, there must be a few
who have active or retired credentials in military or law enforcement? Maybe
that person would even consider waiving the fee to perform the service,
allowing those with less deep pockets to continue to enjoy the magnificence of
the birds who frequent the bridge tower islands?
Or again maybe, I should just get certified as an escort myself so that I could
get the $50/hour pay (double my regular rate as a government contractor dealing
with security issues) AND watch birds too!??!
