Spent the day visiting the route 3 ponds in King
George, and then George Washington's Birthplace
National Monument and Leedstown in Westmoreland
County. I tried for short-eared owl at
Mothershead RRVNWR at dusk, but found none.
Highlights were a blue-gray gnatcatcher and a
pair of redheads in King George. The best pond
in King George is very visible from LaGrange Lane
off of route 3 (but stay off the grass). By the
way, some 9-acre house lots are for sale there
now.
