[va-bird] unable to take 'vacation'from bird list

I am unable to get off the list temporarily for vacation.  What I do is the 
following:
   
  1.  send e-mail to va-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
  2. in subject field, put vacation.
   
  What am I doing wrong?
